Live and Let Die?

Will we ever be able to "live and let be," allow the idea of Namaste to seep into the world's conscience?  History is doomed to be repeated, we are taught. Why must that be? Is this cyclical horror a fact of life? Is it a symbol of the fallacies of man? Should we blindly accept the fact that to err is human, to kill is normal?

Is there another way? The pacifists, the hippies, they roam around the Earth for decades proclaiming peace, love, and unity. It’s a heartbreaking reality where the longhaired, drug-addled men and women contain more knowledge than their custom attired, Ivy League educated counterparts enacting legislature that puts humans in harms way. Why is the disparity between the representatives and the common people so wide?

Human life is so fragile, yet a whole section of this planet has been in near constant upheaval for centuries. That uncertain landmass between Asia and Europe has directly lead to the loss of millions of lives. Are the religious lands and the landmarks that rest on it really that important to sacrifice precious souls?

Will the Middle East ever be a peaceful area? The Muslims, Christians, Jews, Bedouins, Druids, almost every major religious entity has laid claim onto sections of this area. What makes it the Mecca, the Holy Land? Why can’t we, like fictional character Sheldon Cooper, just move Jerusalem to Mexico? Is it impossible to settle what is considered the most important areas of the world?

  1. For the introduction to my blog, I wanted it to be a simple way to get to know the format that will continue to grow in focus. I chose the a thinner but bold column structure to have the eyes first notice the photographs lying in the background and then settle onto my words. The post itself is loose in structure with more questions than actual knowledge. I wanted to let the reader look inward for the answer, which will vary from person to person. The photos imbedded in the text are both mine, from on Florida State University’s campus during September 2013 and in Israel on May 2013. As my blog grows, I hope to challenge the reader and take them on an adventure through history and politics.

  2. Upheaval in the world is a difficult subject to really concrete in any direction. The world has had its unrest in several areas for thousands of years. It’s quite a sad subject when you think about all the thousands of people displaced by conflict or those that have become victim to violence or unrest. Its probably one of the most deep seeded global issues, and certainly one of the saddest. The issues only get more complicated when you bring in the fact that a majority of conflict revolves around religious upheaval, as you stated.

The font choice and color scheme works well in your blog. Before even reading the content the images and the colors gave me the sense of a desert. I knew it was going to be a piece regarding politics simply because of the image of the protesters. The title of the blog however leads me to believe it was going to be a blog regarding some kind of travel. If your narrative is going to continue with the theme of ‘Live and let be’ then I would say maybe changing the blog title to that, or something along those lines? I enjoy the existential line it leads me to but at the same time I really need some kind of concrete topic going into it; especially with the guidelines we have of being totally anonymous. Work with the title and possibly make the story more of a story, with characters for instance that maybe are experiencing the travesties first hand. Walk to reader through the conflict, bring in emotion, and make the reader feel it rather then just read it. I feel that emotional appeals are some of the strongest we can work with.
